
Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) is an autonomous society under the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, established with the primary objective of promoting software exports and fostering the growth of the IT/ITeS industry in the country. STPI plays a pivotal role in implementing the Software Technology Park (STP) and Electronic Hardware Technology Park (EHTP) schemes of the Government of India and in creating, developing, and managing world-class IT infrastructure and services.
Headquartered in New Delhi, STPI is led by its Director General, Shri Arvind Kumar, who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the organization. STPI has a strong nationwide presence through its network of 73 centres operating under 14 Jurisdictional Directorates, with a significant focus on promoting IT-led development in Tier-II and Tier-III cities, where 65 of its centres are located. Patna, the capital city of Bihar, is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world and serves as a major commercial, educational, and administrative hub of eastern India. According to the 2011 Census, Patna had a population of approximately 5.84 million, with an overall literacy rate of 70.68%. As a single-window facilitation agency of the Government of India, STPI provides statutory services to software exporting units operating under the 100% Export Oriented Unit (EOU) Scheme, including project approvals, import certifications, bonding, export certifications, and related regulatory support. In addition, STPI nurtures startups and technology entrepreneurs by offering incubation facilities equipped with high-speed internet connectivity, telecommunication services, power backup, and other essential infrastructure.
Over the years, STPI has made a significant contribution to the growth of India’s software exports and digital economy. Its ecosystem-driven approach has enabled thousands of IT companies and startups to scale their operations and compete globally. As of 2024–25, more than 5,168 STP units are being supported through STPI centres across the country. The turnover of STPI-registered units has witnessed phenomenal growth, increasing from ₹52 crore in 1992–93 to approximately ₹10,69,270.59 crore in 2024–25, reflecting the transformative impact of STPI on India’s IT export landscape.
STPI continues to function as a resource centre for software and technology enterprises by providing ready-to-use office space, incubation facilities, centralized computing resources, and High-Speed Data Communication (HSDC) services. Through its extensive nationwide network and industry-focused initiatives, STPI remains committed to strengthening India’s position as a global leader in information technology, software development, innovation, and digital exports.
